Active charity “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another” (Jn 13:34). “As you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me” (Mt 25:40). Christian charity is founded in the love of God and draws life from it. The love of God gives every person an infinite dignity. Since Christ identifies himself with “the least” of our brethren, this Caritas assumes a divine dimension. Hence, every act of true Christian charity ultimately should be directed towards God and thereby fundamentally distinguish itself from purely humanitarian aid.
